Hair care Every year, the Good Housekeeping Institute Beauty Lab tests hundreds of different hair products, including shampoos, conditioners, leave-in conditioners, hair masks, and every kind of hair style product available,
such as hair serums, mousses, hairsprays, dry shampoos, and more.
Each product goes through a thorough testing process to establish which haircare and style products actually work in order to find the finest of the best.
To begin with, our scientists send products to a panel of thousands of readers around the nation with their labels hidden.
These readers then use the products in their daily lives and rate them on factors such as performance, packaging, and aroma.
While this is going on, GH analysts and chemists in the Beauty Lab use cutting-edge equipment to measure the effectiveness of the products.
For example, an Instron machine measures a product's capacity for conditioning, and a swatch-wash station determines how well a shampoo can clean or prevent color fading.
In order to examine claims that products can reduce frizz, we also use weathering techniques to simulate UV light and heat styling on hair as well as an environmental chamber that exposes hair to high humidity levels.
So what kind of hair products should you actually use?
Here is a comprehensive list of the greatest hair products and haircare companies that have been tested by the GH Beauty Lab,
with top recommendations for all hair types and textures (curly, natural, wavy, long, short, dry, damaged — you name it!).
