The Addams Family actress Christina Ricci praises Jenna Ortega, who is playing Wednesday Addams in the upcoming Netflix series Wednesday. Christina Ricci has praised the performance of upcoming Wednesday star Jenna Ortega. Ricci first played Wednesday Addams, the morbid daughter of the iconic Addams family, in the 1991 film The Addams Family before reprising the role in the 1993 sequel Addams Family Values. Although she isn't the first actress to play the role (it was originated by As the World Turns actress Lisa Loring, who starred in the original 1964-1966 ABC sitcom), she is certainly the most iconic Wednesday for today's generation of fans.

Naturally, Ricci's involvement was a prerequisite when it was announced that Netflix was developing a live-action Wednesday series directed by Tim Burton. While her character and the extent to which she appears in the entirety of the series are currently unknown, it has been confirmed that Jenna Ortega will be stepping into her shoes in a new vision of the iconic role. The show, which is a coming-of-age story that follows Wednesday attempting to break a curse on her family while also stopping a series of killings, is set to premiere on the streaming service in late 2022. It also stars Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Riki Lindhome as Dr. Valerie Kinbott, and Gwendoline Christie as Larissa Weems. Ricci spoke about working on the Wednesday series during an FYC event for the prestige series Yellowjackets. In addition to gushing about working with Burton and Christie, she described Ortega as "incredible." Ricci says the actress is excellent at helping the show provide a modern spin without compromising the classic original tone of The Addams Family.

Ortega has certainly had the perfect career to help her prepare for the role of Wednesday Addams. She has become a veritable Scream Queen, appearing in projects from every corner of the horror sphere. Her first outing in the genre was in 2013's Insidious: Chapter 2 when she was only 12 years old, but since then she has appeared in projects including 2022's Scream, Ti West's X, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, and Netflix's stalker series You. This role will allow her to turn the tables on her typical place in the genre, as she has generally portrayed victims and survivors rather than an actively creepy presence herself. She hasn't necessarily showcased this particular side of herself before. However, with the approval of one of the most prominent actresses to ever play the role, Ortega should be set to make a real splash in Wednesday.

Star Wars & Marvel Crossover for Obi-Wan Kenobi Kills Morbius in Bizarre

A new fan-made fake "leaked video" sees audiences reacting as prequel-era Obi-Wan Kenobi battles Morbius in a bizarre crossover movie. Obi-Wan Kenobi kills Morbius in a bizarre fan-made mash-up video. 2022 finally saw the arrival of Jared Leto’s long-awaited comic book movie Morbius. Unfortunately the film not only flopped once but twice, when Sony strangely decided to put the movie back in theaters weeks after it bombed in initial release.

Sony’s decision to rerelease Morbius was of course prompted by a sudden surge in internet memes making fun of the Leto-led Marvel movie disaster. Leto himself actually got in on this Morbius meme fun, playing along with a Power Rangers-inspired “Morbin’ Time” joke by posting his own humorous video in which he was seen reading a script for Morbius 2. Unfortunately both Leto and Sony seemed to miss the important point that all this Morbius joking is not secretly affectionate but genuinely vicious. Indeed vicious Morbius mockery continues to dominate the internet, as proven by a relatively new fan-made video that actually ends with Leto’s character being brutally murdered. For added fun, it’s Obi-Wan Kenobi himself doing the murdering. Posted by yo chill bruh, the clever video purports to be leaked footage of a mysterious Obi-Wan/Morbius crossover film in which audiences react to the sight of Leto’s Michael Morbius doing battle with Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan. Yo chill bruh’s video at first just seems like an absurd crossover featuring two characters from movies that have received a lot of hate on the internet. But in its final moments, it reveals itself to really be an angry anti-Morbius joke, as a seemingly defeated Obi-Wan uses the Force to get a blaster and wins the match by shooting Morbius through the head, tossing the weapon away in disgust with the utterance “so uncivilized” (the moment is of course taken from Revenge of the Sith). Obi-Wan then looks over the dead Morbius while the video’s fake audience sits in stunned silence.

Star Wars prequels featuring McGregor’s Obi-Wan have like Morbius been targeted by a lot of internet haters. But over the years an affectionate fanbase has emerged for the prequels and they are now seen in many circles as underappreciated movies that deserve reassessment. It remains to be seen if Morbius itself will, after years have passed, develop its own following and come up for reappraisal. But a few internet memes posted weeks after the movie bombed are certainly not evidence that such a reappraisal is happening, as Sony should have realized before going ahead with their ill-fated Morbius rerelease.
