The Uruguay players looked incredibly serious during that rousing rendition of their anthem. Plenty of Uruguay fans clutched their Uruguay shirts and belted out the words passionately.
South Korea match that intensity with a loud and spirited anthem. A huge flag is seen in the stands. The fans are up for this match!
Son Heung-min will be attacking down South Korea’s left, and running at the 35-year-old Martín Cáceres and 37-year-old Diego Godín in Uruguay’s defence. They’ll need all their combined experience to keep the Spurs man quiet.
The last time South Korea met Uruguay at the World Cup, La Celeste emerged victorious.
They would go on to meet Ghana in the next round, in a match that would produce one of the most memorable (or infamous) moments in World Cup history, with Luis Suarez clearing the ball off the line with his hands.
A goal would have sent Ghana through, but instead, Suarez’s actions resulted in a penalty that Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan missed. Uruguay would go on to win the game with a penalty shootout.
