As a Horseman in the Age of Apocalypse, Daredevil gets a terrifying upgrade, turning him into a demonic, bladed version of Iron Man.
Matt Murdock is a man of contradictions, driven to become Daredevil both by his faith in justice and his burning rage at those who escape its reach - however, one Iron Man-style upgrade allowed his wrath to take total control. Bullied as a child due to his father's insistence that he fill his life with constant study, even Daredevil's heroic codename is a reminder of his trauma. Like any true hero, Daredevil has turned his anger into the drive to help others, but it's always bubbling beneath the surface, powering his greatest victories and tempting him into his worst mistakes.
Despite being a street hero, Daredevil has a few world-class villains as enemies, including the Beast of the Hand and the demon lord Mephisto. One world-shaking foe he's rarely had to deal with is Apocalypse, the ancient mutant who is committed to torturing humans and mutants due to his twisted belief in the doctrine of "survival of the fittest." While Apocalypse is a godlike foe in his own right, he prefers to work with a team, transforming select individuals into his Horsemen of Apocalypse by corrupting their minds and enhancing their bodies.
An Age of Apocalypse variant cover for 2016's Daredevil #7 imagines how Matt Murdock would be transformed as a Horseman of Apocalypse, equipping Daredevil with hi-tech armor even Iron Man would be proud of. Like the Hulk before him (who became Apocalypse's Horseman War), Daredevil is consumed by his inner rage, swapping his usual billy clubs for knives, and adding spikes all over his advanced armor. Fans could be forgiven for thinking this is one of the many times Matt's assassin nemesis Bullseye has stolen his costume, but the roaring face is Matt Murdock's buried id, unleashed by Apocalypse's dark Celestial science. The variant cover is by Khoi Pham and Frank D'Armata.
