What is Entertainment?
Entertainment is a form of activity that attracts the attention and attention of viewers or provides pleasure and enjoyment. It can be inspiration or a task, but is more likely to be one of the activities or events that have developed over thousands of years specifically for the purpose of keeping audience attention.
Although people's interests are held by different things because people have different preferences, most forms of entertainment are recognizable and familiar. Storytelling, music, drama, dance, and various types of performances existed in all cultures, supported at court, developed into sophisticated forms and over time became available to all citizens of the country. The process has been accelerated in the modern era by the entertainment industry recording and selling entertainment products. Entertainment is growing and can adapt to any scale, from people selecting individual entertainment from today's vast array of pre-recorded products; make customized banquets for 2 people; for any size or type of event, with music and dance to match; put on a show meant for thousands of people; and especially for a global audience.
The experience of being entertained becomes so intertwined with entertainment that one universal description of inspiration is fun and laughter, although much entertainment has a real purpose. This can occur in various forms of ceremonies, celebrations, religious festivals or satire, for example. Therefore, it is possible that what appears to be entertainment may also be a means of gaining knowledge or intellectual development.
An important aspect of entertainment is the audience, which transforms individual outings or leisure activities into entertainment. Viewers may have a passive position, as in the case of people watching plays, operas, television shows, or movies; or the position of the viewer may become active, as in the case of games, where the position of the participant/viewer may be flipped regularly. Entertainment can be of a public or private nature, involving formal and written performances, as in the case of theater or concerts; or unscripted and automated, as in the case of children's games. Most forms of entertainment have survived through the centuries, growing due to changes in culture, technology, and fashion, for example with stage magic. Films and video games, for example, even though they use newer media, still tell stories, present drama, and play music. Festivals devoted to music, film or dance allow audiences to be entertained for several consecutive days.
Some entertainment, such as public executions, is currently illegal in most countries. Activities such as fencing or archery, which used to be used in hunting or war, have become spectacle sports. Likewise, other activities, such as cooking, have grown into performances among the elite, staged as global competitions and then broadcast for entertainment. What is construed as entertainment for one group or person may be construed as work or an act of cruelty by another.
This form of entertainment is known to have the capacity to traverse different media and has displayed a clearly limitless capacity for creative remixes. This has ensured the continuity and longevity of many themes, photos, and designs.
